Arturo
I sent a message via this page (About ccellist) a few days ago. My name and email now appears on all your pages!!....and no sign of the message.
I would like to get the message to you, and let others read it. Would you get my email address off the pages? If you email me, I'll send you the message that way, rather than through this blog site, which seems to be malfunctioning.

Very happy to find your site before a so-called "boyfriend" whisks me off to Shenzen to share his retirement. Imagine I would have done it, not reading your blog! Please tell me, is there anyway to just take a 5 week holiday and offer my services for loads of money, do they set up these kinds of contract?

I've been to China before, and I liked it. That was Canton, in 2006. Did not do any playing but did try for a professor position at Jinan University, no follow up on the leads.

Just a few questions if you don't mind answering, just how did you get the job? And how much did your slavery paY?

Hi CCellist,
I have a question which you may be able to help me with. I'm the Head of Music Staff at the Nuremberg State Opera. We are coming to Shenzhen at the end of October with a production of Gluck's Orpheus. We've been told there is no harpsichord available in Shenzhen. I find this hard to believe. Did you see and hear an adequate harpsichord in your time in Shenzhen? I'd be most grateful for your advice. Hope you've managed to get back to the States!!
Cheers,
Graham

I think I could have been a "Linux Evangelist" at some point... I even used to run Half Life with Winex, until a Slackware user turned Mac Geek told me about how OS X comes with all the freedom of Linux but with the stability and user-friendliness of a commercial OS. Last year, I sold my Zaurus and bought an iBook. Yes, I've jumped on the Apple bandwagon. I deleted my Gentoo partition and sold my PC. Have you played with OS X? DarwinPorts has a pretty impressive number of packages you're probably familiar with.

What an incredible ordeal . . . the incompetence of the orchestra managers just amazes me! You're very lucky that everything turned out ok.

Thanks Arturo! I am one of the ones who thought Classical music was dying! Thanks for setting me straight. I was trying to compare it with mainstream pop music. What you say, however, makes a lot more sense. It's just that I find it frustrating when you cannot find it readily available--for instance--on the Internet. Try pulling up MSN's Music page, or any other "media" website for that matter; all you'll see are references to the latest pop idol, rap release, and other such so-called "musical" references. It's frustrating when you try to create a Pandora favorite music selection and you cannot pull up any classical artist, composer, or piece. It's frustrating when in order to get to the classical music stations featured on these sites more often than not you have to click on the "jazz" link, and there, hidden within this genre, obscurely enough you'll find "classical" almost as an afterthought. I also find it frustrating to be exposed 24/7 to the blaring notes coming out of other people's boom boxes, car stereos, and "background" music at shopping malls or other retail places.
But: I must not mix pop with art. That's where I've been mistaken. This is where your words are helping me make that distinction; hopefully from now on music will not frustrate me anymore! :)
